Obsessing over…

Buying this new house. We've signed all the paperwork, set up homeowners insurance, had an appraisal done...and have heard nothing from anyone. Why don't people communicate?? I am terrified they're just going to call us and be all, yeah...about that...no. 

Working on…

A massive to-do list. I love love love to-do lists. They make me a happy camper. 

Thinking about…

How awesome this weekend is going to be. Tay and I are going square dancing and then we're taking Becks to Lego Fest. Square dancing involves food carts and beer. And Lego Fest has A LIFE SIZE HOBBIT HOLE. 

Anticipating…

Going home and eating the butterfinger hearts I know are sitting right next to the couch. Also, its supposed to snow this weekend! 

Listening to…

The ambient sounds of the library. Don't let anyone tell you any differently, academic libraries are loud places. 

Eating/Drinking…

I've been teaching today which means I've been compulsively drinking water (its my nervous tick when I speak to large groups of freshmen.)

Wishing…

I could just buy everything I want to put in the new house. Like the awesome wallpaper I want to put in the bedroom, and these amazing fifties style stools I want to put at the countertop, and a new king size bed so Tay can stop complaining that I am a bed hog. 

Mailboxes

So we're buying a house! We're in the midst of all of the paperwork BS that comes with mortgages and homeowners insurance and lawyers and realtors and so on and so forth. Which is both awesome (things are happening) and terrifying (I'm pretty sure we signed away our firstborn.)

To make the prospect of owning a new house even more exciting I've been shopping around for a mailbox. Unfortunately I don't think any of these are within our price range, but I'm going to dream of them anyway.

RVA ZOO

Guys, I LOVE the zoo. Any zoo. All zoos. So its impressive that its taken me so long to get to the Richmond Zoo, I mean I've been living here since 08.

But get there I did, and I went with the world's most adorable niece and nephew, and lucky for you I had the video camera. And no shame about filming everything. And I have a husband who willingly sacrifices his free time to put together home videos for me.

The Interwebs

There are some awesome things that live online.

For example there was Snail Mail My Email which my mom and I volunteered to write letters for. I sent one to Taylor. The letter writer who did that one did an amazing job.

Then there is The Listserve which is my current obsession. I was super excited when I got the first email. It came all the way from someone in Australia. She wrote about following her dreams. Its interesting to get an inside look at a strangers thought process. She included a poem at the end of her email that I thought I'd tack on here.

I tried to forget

Sean's Birthday!

Two of my favorite people turned 24 on December 8th, both of them were in my bridal party. Sadly Jenny lives too far away for us to celebrate together, so she had to be content with an off key rendition of Happy Birthday on her voicemail from me. Sean however lived up by Old Town Alexandria, so we could visit him, and visit him we did!

We seem to know more people in Alexandria than we do in Richmond, so there was quite a group of awesome people out to celebrate his birthday. Sean was obviously there, along with his girlfriend Bridget. Will came out, as did Jori. Chrystal was there. And Mike and Nicole joined too! I kind of love how friends from all parts of both Taylor and my lives have become friends with each other as well. 

We went to an awesome cheese shop called La Fromagerie where we consumed far too much wine and cheese, all of which was delicious. Also, oh my god the mac and cheese!! 

The cat mask, for the record, came from the birthday card we gave Sean. It is supposed to make him irresistible to girls. Not that he needs to be, since he already has Bridge!

We stopped by an awesome coffee/gelato shop after that called Killer ESP which is adorably trendy and everyone working there was so friendly! Also, the salted caramel latte is delish. 

Chrystal and I posed with some random adorable dog and then under Christmas lights. 

Then we wandered into a restaurant/bar called The Light Horse where we spent the rest of the evening chatting and drinking a bit. 

For the record in northern Virginia they really don't like it when you still have a vertical ID. Mines valid until like 2014 though, and I'll be damned if a grumpy bartender is going to make me get a new one with a picture where I'm not allowed to smile before I have to.   

All in all it was a lovely evening, and I am glad Sean gave us an excuse to visit and have a good time.

I am the queen of finding time sucks. I can easily spend an hour hopping from random person's pictures to random person's pictures on instagram. I have nine thousand blogs that I follow regularly. There are multiple webcomics that I read. I get addicted to iphone games that really have no end point. And now I have random online magazines made by people I don't know but that are AWESOME. So AWESOME I will share them with you. (And at the same time ease my guilt that I never ever blog anymore. Our Thanksgiving was lovely by the way how was yours?)

And then there was video

Taylor put together a wedding video with footage we took using the camera I gave him for Christmas last year. Its adorable and I tear up every time I watch it. Enjoy!

What We've Been Up To - Part 2

And now for part 2 of catching you up with all the fun times we've been having I give you the New Jersey bridal shower!!!

Taylor's mother Sue, his sister Whitney, and their family friend Lois threw me an absolutely beautiful bridal shower at the end of July. It was held in the cutest little restaurant called Bistro 18.

What We've Been Up To - Part 1

Soooo I have finally gotten my act together enough to update you on all of the AWESOME things we have done in the past few months. I apologize, but its been crazy busy over here what with the moving, and the wedding planning, and the work, and the life stuff. I hope the next couple of posts make up for us being MIA!

Lets start with our trip to New York back in July! And by our I mean mine, as Taylor hung out with a couple of his groomsmen and his family that day in Jersey.

I am not a huge fan of New York. I get that it is full of life and culture and amazingness, and there are a bajillion places I want to go there (Murray's Cheese Bar anyone?) but its just not my favorite place. There is TOO much going on, and lets face it, when I am not 100% sure of everything I tend to get all hivey. However! I have to admit to having a ton of fun when I went into the city with my mom and her friend Lucy. Mainly because we got popsicles.

I saved a bird!!!!!!!!

The poor thing was trapped in the staircase of my parking garage trying in vain to fly through the glass windows.

It was mildly heartbreaking and the poor thing looked terrified, so being an awesome fearless person I went and scooped the little bird up and took it out of the garage so it could fly away.

I'm sure I terrified it even more, particularly when I stopped to take a picture of it, but it was incredibly well behaved when I managed to scoop it up, and pretty calmly let me carry it out of the garage.

It probably figured anything was better than flying into glass over and over again.

Though I'd like to think I have a very soothing aura about me.
