Weekend Wrap Up

Highlights from this glorious weekend:

The weather was absolutely phenomenal.

I got bubblegum ice cream! With a side of lemon custard.

We went to see Iron Man 3. He's starting to look slightly old...but it doesn't stop him from being awesome. Plus I really love Pepper Potts.

I planted three buckets of iris in the front yard and got very very dirty. Then I couldn't move afterwards.

Taylor bought a lawnmower and made our front and backyard look less like a weed jungle. Seriously, it was a little bit out of control.

We stopped our neighbors dog from chasing cats across the street. She was a sweetheart.

There might have been some Sonic involved in our weekend meals. I can't quit corndogs, and I don't think I'm going to try.

We hung Mortimer and Rosemarie. (Those are our deer heads, in care you weren't aware.)

Taylor had a gig at Bogarts. I didn't attend because of the aforementioned lack of being able to move.

I watched 5 episodes of Ready For Love with Mom

Taylor gave me 12 embroidery patterns to make baby bibs for the little one growing inside of me.

I made a gorgeous cake for mom that also happened to taste delicious. I can make some frosting ya'll.

We went to CanCan for Mother's Day where everyone, except me, drank entirely too much. We also ordered one of every dessert on the dessert menu, which made me a gloriously happy camper.

Weekend Wrap Up

Mom, Taylor and I spent pretty much all weekend working in the front yard.

We brought THREE truckloads of plants from Mom's house over to our house and stuck them all in the ground. Mom is the plant whisperer, so you can't even tell we had taken that many from her yard, she has soooooooo many left.

Poor Taylor also dug up two truckloads of monkey grass to take to the new house my parentals just bought. It was impressive how much of this stuff was growing in our yard. I really really hate monkey grass, so I was glad to see it go. We had to cut pretty much everything back when we replanted it, but next year it should look glorious, and this year once we get some mulch in it will definitely be an improvement. I am sad I don't have more before pictures. But above you can see what the front garden looked like, it is pretty much the only part of our property that gets sun, so naturally we turned it into a rose garden.

This is obviously a head on shot of the house. Yes, our yard looked sad and pathetic. I have NO pictures of the garden to the right of the house or behind the drive way...but here's what it all looks like now!

Look at that crazy change! Its okay, I'll wait for you to scroll up and down again a few times. We took out a gross holly bush, and planted buckets of hostas, hydrangeas, and astilbe. There's also random ground cover in there.

The plantings continue around the side of the house and next to the driveway. More hydrangeas, hostas, astilbe, but also bleeding hearts and ground cover. And a foxglove and hollyhock!

The center of the drive way circle got some hostas to keep the azaleas we already had company. We also removed a massive holly bush from here.  Seriously, who plants that many holly bushes?

The front garden looks a little rough right now, and definitely needs some mulch, but there are like five rose bushes, a bucketload of mallow, lambs ear, and ground cover in here. It will be GORGEOUS next year. (If you compare it to the third picture in this post it looks gorgeous now.) And we stuck some more bleeding heart by a clump of day-lilies at the base of the tree.

We still have a TON of iris to plant, we'll put them between the rose garden and the tree above to make a large cohesive front garden plot. And then we'll get some mulch in and be done with it. Now we just have to make sure to water it all constantly and keep them alive.

Props to Taylor for the massive amount of digging he did, and thanks to Mom for all the plants, the layout, and the constant teaching she did. (Plus digging, she did a lot of digging too.)

Its kind of like we're real people with a yard and all!

What did you all do this weekend?

Weekend Wrap Up

Yay for weekends right?? Here are the highlights of this past weekend.

Went to Secco with Dad for restaurant week. Between the three of us we ordered everything on the menu. It was delicious and I would go back and do it all over again.

Ate froyo...a lot. And bubble tea!

Taylor dug out two of the three holly bushes around the house. Holly bushes are the devil. I don't understand why people plant them.

Visited Clair at the new restaurant Portrait House. The food was delicious and we felt cool knowing the bartender.

I kind of developed a baby bump. Except not really. And only after I eat something. Mostly I just look fat.

Taylor's family visited the house. Sadly I was at work, but I am sure they had a glorious time.

I finally planted the mint!

Taylor obsessively reseeded the front lawn, I'm pretty sure he's going to make grass grow by sheer force of will.

We went estate-saleing with me mum. Saw a house that basically had a forest of azaleas. Gorgeous.

I caught up on Lost Girl and started watching Defiance. Yay for the syfy channel and the parentals paying for cable.

Tay and I spent far too many hours playing Candy Crush on our phones.

Started making a video with Connor.

Weekend Wrap Up

I'm really really really trying to be a bit more consistent about this whole blog thing.

Remember when I used to do weekend reviews? Yeah. This is that. Again. But, obviously, for this past weekend.

  • We got sushi to go from Sticky Togogo! 4 different rolls, sticky balls, and tots = a winning way to start the weekend.
  • Tay seeded the front yard. Its a dirt patch right now, so any grass is better than no grass. He also redid the slate pathway so it looks a little less thrown together.
  • Taylor and I both found birds nests. Taylor is watching the one on the left being built on the side of our house and the one on the right is located at a house my parents just bought.

  • We met some of our neighbors and joined them for a bonfire. They have chickens in their backyard and four dogs and were the nicest people ever.
  • I pulled out my embroidery supplies again, the warm weather is perfect for porch sitting and attempting to be creative/homemakery.
  • As you saw yesterday I added to my awesome collection of dead people's stuff at the estate sales.
  • Tay and Dad drank too much at the local Irish bar. Mom and I ate cheesecake and then drove them home.
  • Tay fixed the door to the cat/storage room to make it look more streamlined and pretty. I wish I had gotten a before picture of it to show! Basically he put in punched tin to replace the ugly vent cover up top, and framed out the bottom "cat door" to make it look more finished.

  • I paid all of our bills and cleaned the kitchen...which makes me sound almost as productive as Tay. I also worked on Sunday! (Tay as a rule, is far more productive than I am.)
  • We ended the weekend with a trip to Sonic. Cuz for reals this lady was craving a corn dog. SO GOOD. (So NOT healthy)

So there you have it. Our weekend. Typed up for you. Out of love. What did you do?

Weekend

This weekend:

We had a few friends over for s'mores and drinks. We had GIANT marshmallows. Everyone left with a sugar coma.

Taylor made banana foster pancakes. They were delish, and so worth the multitude of calories.

I took an embroidery class with my mom. And we got custard from Ray's. Which we agree might be the best ice cream in the city.

Taylor went to a squirrels game for his bandmate's birthday.

We had a BBQ for Father's Day. I made jam swirled bunt cake with triple berry syrup which we ate before and after dinner. Taylor manned the grill and served up chicken and sausage which we paired with my moms potato salad and corn on the cob. Connor even made an appearance!

Tay's band played at the Camel. They were one of six bands, and an eclectic mix of bands it was.

This Weekend

Here's to hoping all of you had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend! And now for the list:

Gidget had three surgeries at once, which led to her being drugged and grouchy.

Taylor went to see a Squirrels game with his bandmate Josh.

Took Taylor to his first drive in. MIB 3 and Battleship were the double feature. Corndogs were dinner.

I went out with Kristel for an evening in Carytown

We had a picnic of Olio sammiches in the park.

750 piece jigsaw puzzle completed in a day. Yay new couple hobbies!

Memorial day cookout with my parents where we consumed filet, corn, cobbler, and strawberry pie.
